British Forces Killed in OIF

Cpl. Stephen John Allbutt, 35, Queen's Royal Lancers, Hometown: Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. Killed when his tank was struck by a shell from another British tank in Basra, Iraq on March 25th, 2003.

 

Sapper Luke Allsopp, 24, 33 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), Hometown: North London, England. Two British soldiers were reported missing, later reported as killed, after an attack on British military vehicles in Basra, Southern Iraq, on March 23rd, 2003.

 

Corporal Russell Aston, 30, 156 Provost Company, Hometown: Swadlincote, Derbyshire. Troops from 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, patrolling in the town of Al-Majar Al-Kabir, near Maysan came under fire. The patrol took one casualty and two vehicles were destroyed. In responding to the incident, an RAF Chinook helicopter carrying a Quick Reaction Force came under fire as it landed. Seven personnel aboard the helicopter were wounded, three of them seriously. All were extracted by helicopter and are receiving treatment. The MOD very much regret to confirm that the bodies of six soldiers from the Royal Military Police were recovered from the police station in the town. They are believed to have been killed in a separate incident. Died, June 24th, 2003.

 

Maj. Matthew Bacon, 34, Headquarters of Multi-National Division (South East) (MND(SE)). Hometown: London. Died when an armoured SNATCH landrover was attacked by an improvised explosive device in Basra City, Iraq, on September 11th, 2005.

 

Maj. Steve Alexis Ballard, 33, 3 Commando Brigade, Royal Marines. Hometown: Swindon, Wiltshire. Died of natural causes on March 30th, 2003.

 

Pvt. Craig Barber, 20, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Welsh, British Army. Hometown: Ogmore Vale, Glamorgan. Died of wounds from hostile small arms fire in the Al Fursi district, Basra, Iraq, on August 6th, 2007.

 

Sgt. Duane Barwood, 41, 903rd Expeditionary Air Wing, Raoyal Air Force. Hometown: Carterton, Oxfordshire. Died as a result of a rocket attack on the Contingency Operating Base in Basra on February 29th, 2008.

 

Major Nick Bateson, 49, Royal Signals, British Army. Hometown: Chislehurst, Kent. Died during a vehicle accident at the Basra Air Station, Iraq, on May 1st, 2007.

 

Sgt. John Battersby, 31, Special Air Service Regiment, British Army. Hometown: In Lancashire. Died when the RAF Puma helicopter they were traveling in crashed at Salman Pak, near Baghdad, Iraq on 20th, November 2007.

 

Leading Aircraftsman Martin Beard, 20, 1st Squadron, Royal Air Force Regiment, Royal Air Force. Hometown: Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Died of wounds due to small arms fire in the Al Waki district, Basra, Iraq, on August 7th, 2007.

 

Fusilier Russell Beeston, 26, 52nd Lowland Regiment (Volunteers), serving attached to the 1st Battalion King's Own Scottish Border. Hometown: Govan, Glasgow. Beeston was fatally wounded during an incident at Ali As Sharqi, Maysan, Iraq on 27 August 2003.

 

2nd Lt. Jonathan Carlos Bracho-Cooke, 24, 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancasters Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Hove, Sussex. Died in action as a result of an improvised explosive device at As Sarraji, near Basrah, Iraq, on February 5th, 2007.

 

Lance Cpl. Allan Brackenbury, 21, British Army’s Kings Royal Hussars. Hometown: Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire. Died instantly when his patrol was attacked by a roadside bomb as it drove to a meeting with the Iraqi Border Police at al-Amarah, Maysan, Iraq on May 29th, 2005.

 

Lance Cpl. Dennis Brady, 37, Royal Army Medical Corps, British Army. Hometown: Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. Died during a mortar attack in Basra, Iraq on October 2nd, 2006.

 

Lance Cpl. Shaun Andrew Brierley, 28, 212 Signal Squadron, 1 (UK) Armoured Division HQ & Signal Regiment, Hometown: Batley, West Yorkshire, England, Killed in a traffic accident in Kuwait on March 30th, 2003.

 

Cpl. Jeremy Brookes, 28, 4th Battalion, The Rifles, British Army. Hometown: Birmingham. Died due to small arms fire in the Al Tuwaysa district of Basra, Iraq, on May 21st, 2007.

 

Colour Sgt. Nicholas Brown, 34, Special Air Service Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Unknown. Died during a firefight while trying to capture a targeted insurgent leader in Baghdad, Iraq on 26th, March, 2008.

 

Chief Technician Richard Anthony Brown, 40, Engineering Wing at RAF Lyneham, Royal Air Force. Hometown: Brixham, Devon. Died following the loss of an RAF C-130 Hercules aircraft over Iraq on January 30th, 2005.

 

Lance Cpl. James Cartwright, 21, Badger Squadron, 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, British Army. Hometown: London. Died following a vehicle accident in Southern Iraq on June 16th, 2007.

 

Lance Cpl. Chris Casey, 27, 1st Battalion, Irish Guards, British Army. Hometown: London. Died of wounds from an IED explosion near his vehicle north of the Rumaylah oil fields, Iraq, on August 9th, 2007.

Rifleman Daniel Lee Coffrey, 21, 2nd Battalion, The Rifles, British Army. Hometown: Exeter, Devon. Died in action when gunmen attacked a British patrol in north Basra, southern Iraq on February 27th, 2007.

 

Sgt. Eddie Collins, age unknown, Special Air Service Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Hereford. Died of wounds sustained in Baghdad when shots were fired as his patrol tried to arrest an insurgent leader on September 5th, 2007.

 

Gunner Paul M. Collins, 21, 847 Naval Air Squadron. Royal Marines. Hometown: Dawlish, Devon. Died as one of five British service personnel killed in action when their Lynx helicopter was shot down over a residential suburb of Basra on May 6th, 2006.

 

Sgt. Paul Connolly, 33, 21st Engineer Regiment, Royal Engineers. Hometown: Crawley, West Sussex. Connolly was found dead from a gunshot wound within the confines of Shaibah Logistic Base on December 26th, 2004. 

 

Cpl. Matthew Cornish, 29, 1st Battalion, The Light Infantry, British Army. Hometown: Leeds, West Yorkshire. Died of wounds sustained in a mortar attack on a Multi National Force base in Basra, Iraq, on August 1st, 2006.

 

Cpl. John Johnston Cosby, 29, 1st Battalion, Devonshire and Dorset Light Infantry, British Army. Hometown: Belfast, Northern Ireland. Died in action as a result of small arms fire during a raid against insurgents in Basra, Iraq, on July 15th, 2006.

 

Wing Comd. John Coxen, 47, British Air Force. Hometown: Liverpool. Died as one of five British service personnel killed in action when their Lynx helicopter was shot down over a residential suburb of Basra, Iraq on May 6th, 2006.

 

Lance Cpl. Andrew Jason Craw, 21, 1st Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. Hometown: Tullibody, Alloa, Clackmannanshire. Craw died following a tragic incident on a training range near Basra, Iraq on January 7th, 2004.

 

Staff Sgt. Simon Cullingworth, 36, 33 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), Hometown: Essex, England, Killed in attack on British vehicles in southern Iraq on March 23rd, 2003.

 

Signaller Paul William Didsbury, 18, 21st Signal Regiment (Air Support), Britiah Army. Hometown: Blackpool, Lancashire. Died due to an accidental weapons discharge at Basra Airport, Iraq, on June 29th, 2005.

 

Pvt. Eleanor Dlugosz, 19, Royal Army Medical Corps, British Army. Hometown: Southampton, Hampshire. Died as one of four British soldiers killed from the blast of an improvised explosive device in Basra, Iraq, on April 5th, 2007. 

 

Capt. David I. Dobson, 27, Army Air Corps, had been serving with 847 Naval Air Squadron. Hometown: Unknown. Died as one of five British service personnel killed in action when their Lynx helicopter was shot down over a residential suburb of Basra, Iraq on May 6th, 2006.

 

Private Mark Dobson, 41, B (Green Howards) Company, Tyne-Tees Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Darlington, County Durham. Died in his accommodation. The incident is being investigated but is not thought to have been the result of hostile action. He died at Basra Air Station, Iraq on March 28th, 2005.

 

Rifleman Paul Donnachie, 18, 2nd Battalion The Rifles, British Army. Hometown : Reading, Berkshire. Died  when he was Shot in an opportunist attack, after dismounting from his vehicle at al-Ashar, Basra, Iraq on April 29th, 2007.

 

Lce. Cpl. Allan Stewart Douglas, 22, 1st Battalion, The Highlanders. Hometown:  Aberdeen, Scotland. Died due to small arms fire in Al Amarah, Maysan, Iraq, on January 30th, 2006.

 

Snr. Aircraftsman Christopher Dunsmore, 29, 1st Squadron, RAF Regiment, Royal Air Force. Hometown: Leicester, Leicestershire. Died during a mortar attack in Basra Operating Base, Iraq, on July 19th, 2007.

 

2nd Lt. Joanna Yorke Dyer, 23, 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Berlin. Died as one of four British soldiers killed from the blast of an improvised explosive device in Basra, Iraq, on April 5th, 2007.

 

Cpl. Steve Edwards, 35, Badger Squadron, 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. Died when his Warrior armoured vehicle was struck by an IED in Mustashfa district, Basra, Iraq, on July 31st, 2007.

 

Staff Sgt. Sharron Elliott, 34, Intelligence Corps, British Army. Hometown: Ipswich, Norfolk. Died as a result of injuries sustained following the detonation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) mounted on a bridge on the Shatt Al Arab River on the eastern edge of Basra City, Iraq, on November 12th, 2006.

 

Pvt. Lee Ellis, 23, 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. Hometown:  Wythenshawe, Manchester. Died as one of two British soldiers killed in action as a result of an improvised explosive device in Al Amarah, Iraq, on February 28th, 2006.

 

Lance Bombadier Llywelyn Karl Evans, 24, 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, Hometown: Llandudno, Wales, Killed in a U.S. CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter crash south of the Kuwait border on March 21st, 2003.

 

Lance Cpl. Paul Farrelly, 27, 20th, Armored Brigade, British Army. Hometown: Runcorn, Cheshire. Died as one of two British soldiers killed in action when an improvised explosive device detonated in Basra, Iraq, on May 28th, 2006.

 

Guardsman Stephen Ferguson, 31, 1st Battalion Scots Guards, British Army. Hometown: in Lanarkshire. Died of injuries in the UK suffered when his Warrior slid into a canal north east of the UK military’s Contingency Operating Base near Basra City on December 13th, 2007.

 

Private Marc Ferns, 21, 1st Battalion, The Black Watch. Hometown: Glenrothes, Fife, England. Died in an improvised explosive device attack in Basra on 12 August 2004. 

 

Tpr. Lee Fitzsimmons, 26, Special Air Service Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Peterborough, Northamptonshire. Died when the RAF Puma helicopter they were travelling in crashed near Baghdad, Iraq on November 20th, 2007.

 

Lance Cpl. Timothy Darren Flowers, 25, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, British Army. Hometown: Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Died during a mortar attack in Basra, Iraq, on July 21st, 2007.

 

Cpl. Ryan Francis, 23, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Welsh, British Army. Hometown: Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. Died when an IED detonated, just after midnight, on a Warrior patrol in the Tuninah district in the north of Basra, Iraq, on July 7th, 2007.

 

Fusilier Gordon Campbell Gentle, 19, 1st Battalion, Royal Highland Fusiliers. Hometown: Pollock, Glasgow, Scotland. Gentle was killed in an improvised explosive device attack on British military vehicles in Basra, Iraq on June 28th, 2004

 

Flight Sgt. Mark Gibson, 34, 47 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Hometown: Swindon, Wiltshire. Missing believed killed following the loss of an RAF C-130 Hercules aircraft over Iraq on January 30th, 2005.

 

Sgt. Stuart Robert Tennant Gray, 31, 1st Battalion of The Royal Black Watch, british Army. Hometown: Fife, Dumfirmline, Scotland. Died in a suicide car-bomb attack on a vehicle check-point in Iraq on November 4th, 2004. 

 

Kingsman Alexander William Green, 21, 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Warrington, Lancashire. Died as a result of injuries sustained when shot by small arms fire whilst on a task in the Hayy Al Muhandisn District of Basra City, Iraq, on January 13th, 2007.

 

Lt. Philip D Green RN, 31, 849 Squadron Royal Navy, Hometown: Freiston, Lincolnshire, England, Killed when two British helicopters collided over the Persian Gulf on March 22nd, 2003.

 

Flight Lieutenant Kristian Michael Alexander Grover, 30, 33 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Hometown; Oxfordshire. Died in a helicopter accident at Basra International Airport on the morning of July 19th, 2004.

Major Paul Harding, 48, 4th Battalion, The Rifles, British Army. Hometown: Winchester, Hampshire. Died as a result of indirect fire on the Provisional Coordination Centre in Basra, Iraq, on June 20th, 2007.

 

Assistant Chief Officer Leonard Harvey, 55, Defence Fire Service, Hometown: Wattisham, Suffolk, England, Leonard Harvey, a civilian fire-fighter serving with the Defence Fire Service, died in hospital in the UK on 22nd May 2003, having been taken ill while deployed in the Gulf on Operation Telic. 

 

Marine Sholto Hedenskog, 27, 3rd Commando Brigade Royal Marines, Hometown: Pretoria, South Africa, Killed in a U.S. CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter crash south of the Kuwait border on March 21st, 2003.

 

Sgt. Les Hehir, 34, 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, Hometown: Poole, Dorset, Killed in a U.S. CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter crash south of the Kuwait border on March 21st, 2003.

 

Sgt. Graham Hesketh, 35, 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Runcorn, Cheshire. Died  as a result of injuries sustained from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) placed at a roadside in Basra City, Iraq, on December 28th, 2006. 

 

Private Phillip Hewett, 21, C Company, The 1st Battalion Staffordshire Regiment. Hometown: Tamworth, Staffordshire. Died from injuries sustained in hostile action in Maysan province, Iraq on July 16th, 2005.

 

Sgt. Chris Ian Hickey, 30, 1st Battalion of the Coldstream Guards. Hometown: Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. Died as a result of injuries sustained from a roadside bomb in Basra, Iraq on October 18th, 2005.

 

Sgt. Jonathan Hollingsworth, age unknown. 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Hull, East Yorkshire. Died when he sustained gunshot wounds during a planned search and detention operation in Basra City, Iraq, and was evacuated to a nearby military hospital. Despite the best possible medical care, he later died from his injuries on November 24th, 2006.

 

Capt. Richard Holmes, 28, 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. Hometown: Winchester, Hampshire. Died as one of two British soldiers killed in action as a result of an improvised explosive device in Al Amarah, Iraq, on February 28th, 2006.

 

Lance Cpl. Sarah Holmes, 26, 29th Postal Courier and Movement Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Wantage, Oxfordshire. Died in the UK from injuries sustained in a road traffic accident in Al Udeid, Qatar, on 3 October 2007.  She died on October 14th, 2007.

 

Warrant Officer 2nd Class Lee Hopkins, 35, Royal Corps of Signals, British Army. Hometown: Wellingborough, Northants. Died as a result of injuries sustained following the detonation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) mounted on a bridge on the Shatt Al Arab River on the eastern edge of Basra City, Iraq, on November 12th, 2006.

 

Lance Cpl. of Horse, Matty Hull, 25, The Blues & Royals, Household Cavalry Regiment, Hometown: Windsor, England, Killed in action in southern Iraq on March 28th, 2003.

 

Lance Cpl. Benjamin John McGowan Hyde, 23, 156 Provost Company, Royal Military Police, Hometown: Northallerton, North Yorkshire, England, Killed in a firefight in Majar al-Kabir, Iraq, on June 24th, 2003.

Corporal Richard Thomas David Ivell, 29, Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. Hometown: Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Ivell was fatally injured in a vehicle accident at Shaibah Logistics Base in southern Iraq on 12 February 2004.

 

Pvt. Alan Joseph Jones, 20, 2nd Battalion, The Duke of Lancasters Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Liverpool, Merseyside. Died as a result of hostile small arms fire in the Al Ashar District of Basra, Iraq on April 23rd, 2007.

 

Captain David Martyn Jones, 29, 1st Battalion, The Queen's Lancashire Regiment, Hometown: Louth, Lincolnshire. Jones was killed in a bomb attack on a military ambulance in Basra on 14th August , 2003.

 

Sgt. John Jones, 31, 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. Hometown: Birmingham. Died as a result of injuries sustained from a roadside bomb in Basra, Iraq, on November 20th, 2005.

Lt. Marc A. Lawrence RN, 26, 849 Squadron, Hometown: Westgate-on- Sea, Kent, Killed when two British helicopters collided over the Persian Gulf on March 22nd, 2003.

 

Cpl. Ben Leaning, 24, Queen’s Royal Lancers, British Army. Hometown: Scunthorpe, Humberside. Died as one of two soldiers killed as a result of an improvised explosive device in Maysan Province, Iraq, on April 19th, 2007.

 

Pvt. Joseva Lewaicei, 25, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Anglian Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Lautoka, Fiji. Died as one of two British soldiers killed in action as a result of an improvised explosive device north of Basra, Iraq, on May 13th, 2006.

 

Rifleman Aaron Lincoln, 18, 2nd Battalion, The rifles, British Army. Hometown: Durham, Teeside. Died as a result of small arms fire injuries sustained during a patrol in Iraq, on April 2nd, 2007.

 

Captain James Linton, 43, 40 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, Hometown: England, Captain James Linton collapsed and died following a training run at a British base in Az Zubayr on July 18th, 2003.

 

Cpl. Paul Graham Long, 24, 156 Provost Company, Royal Military Police, Hometown: Colchester, Essex, England. Troops from 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, patrolling in the town of Al Majar Al Kabir came under fire. The patrol took one casualty and two vehicles were destroyed. In responding to the incident, an RAF Chinook helicopter carrying a Quick Reaction Force came under fire as it landed. Seven personnel aboard the helicopter were wounded, three of them seriously. All were extracted by helicopter and are receiving treatment. The MOD very much regret to confirm that the bodies of six soldiers from the Royal Military Police were recovered from the police station in the town. They are believed to have been killed in a separate incident on June 24th, 2003.

 

Pvt. Paul Aitken Lowe, 19, 1st Battalion of The Black Watch, British Army. Hometown: Fife, Scotland. Died in a suicide car-bomb attack on a vehicle check-point in Iraq on November 4th, 2004.

 

Marine Christopher R Maddison, 24, 539 Assault Squadron, Royal Marines, Hometown: Scarborough, North Yorkshire, England, Killed during fighting in the area of Basra on March 30th, 2003.

 

Flight Lt. Kevin Barry Main, 35, 9 Squadron, Royal Air Force, Hometown: Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. Killed when his aircraft was downed by a U.S. Patriot missile near the Kuwaiti border on March 23rd, 2003.

 

Lance Cpl. Ian Keith Malone, 28, 1st Battalion, Irish Guards, Hometown: Dublin, Ireland, Killed in action in Basra on April 6th, 2003.

Captain Ken Masters, 40, 61 Section, Special Investigation Branch, Royal Military Police.  Hometown: Portadown, Northn Ireland. The body of Captain Ken Masters was discovered in his accommodation in Waterloo Lines, Basra, Iraq on October 15th, 2005.

 

Pvt. Scott William McArdle, 22, 1st Battalion of The Black Watch, British Army. Hometown: Fife, Scotland. Died in a suicide car-bomb attack on a vehicle check-point in Iraq on November 4th, 2004.

Private Kevin Thomas McHale, 27, 1st Battalion, The Black Watch. Hometown: Lochgelly, Fife. Died in a vehicle accident in North Babil Province, Iraq, on October 29th, 2004.

Flt. Lt. Sarah-Jayne Mulvihill, 32, RAF Benson. Hometown: Canterbury. Died as one of five British service personnel killed in action when their Lynx helicopter was shot down over a residential suburb of Basra, Iraq, on May 6th, 2006.

 

Piper Christopher Muzvuru, 21, 1st Battalion, Irish Guards, Hometown: Gweru, Zimbabwe, Killed by sniper fire while in action in Basra on April 6th, 2003.

 

Master Engineer Gary Nicholson, 42, 47 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Hometown: Hull, Humberside. Missing believed killed following the loss of an RAF C-130 aircraft over Iraq on January 30th, 2005.

 

Sgt. John Nightingale, 27, 217 Transport Squadron, part of 150 Regiment (Volunteers) of the Royal Logistic Corps. Hometown: Leeds, England. Nightingale died whilst serving at Shaibah near Basra. The tragic incident, involving a firearm, was not the result of enemy action and the circumstances are being fully investigated by the Royal Military Police. Nightingale died on September 23rd, 2003.

 

Corporal Ben Nowak, 27, 45 Commando, Royal Marines. Hometown: Liverpool, Merseyside. Died as a result of injuries sustained following the detonation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) mounted on a bridge on the Shatt Al Arab River on the eastern edge of Basra City, Iraq, on November 12th, 2006.

 

Private Lee Martin O'Callaghan, 20, The 1st Battalion, The Princess of Wales regiment. Hometown: Walworth, London, England. Died during an attack by insurgents in Basra on 9th August 2004. 

 

Sgt. Robert Michael O’Connor, 38, Engineering Wing, RAF Lyneham. Hometown: Unknown. Missing believed killed following the loss of an RAF Hercules C-130 aircraft over Iraq on January 30th, 2005.

Lt. Richard Palmer, 27, Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. Hometown: Ware, Hertfordshire. Died as a result of an improvised explosive device near Ad Dayr, Iraq, on April 15th, 2006.

 

Flight Lieutenant Paul Martin Pardoel, 35, 47 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Hometown: Melbourne, Australia. Missing believed killed following the loss of an RAF C-130 Hercules over Iraq on January 30th, 2005.

 

Sgt. Norman Patterson, 28, Cheshire Regiment, serving with the SAS. Hometown: Staffordshire. Patterson died in a road traffic accident in Baghdad on January 1st, 2004.

 

Corporal Ian Plank, 31, Royal Marines. Hometown: Poole, Dorset. Plank was killed by hostile fire during a Coalition operation in Iraq late on 31 October 2003.

 

Colour Sgt. Mark Lawrence Powell, 37, Parachute Regiment, British Army. Hometown: Porthcawl, Glamorgan, South Wales. Died in a helicopter crash north of Baghdad, Iraq, on April 15th, 2007.

Gunner Duncan Geoffrey Pritchard, 22, 16 Squadron, Royal Air Force Regiment, Hometown: Suffolk, England, Died in a British hospital from injuries sustained in a traffic accident while on duty in Iraq on May 8th, 2003.

 

Cpl. Gordon Alexander Pritchard, 31, Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. Hometown: Radstock, Edinburgh. Died as a result of an improvised explosive device in the port city of Umm Qasr, Iraq, on January 31st, 2006.

 

Private Christopher Rayment, 22, 1st Battalion, The Princess of Wales Regiment. Hometown: London, England.  Died died in a tragic accident at Al Amarah on 4th August 2004.

 

Cpl. Christopher Read, 22, 158 Provost Company, 3rd Regiment, Royal Military Police, British Army. Hometown: Poole, Dorset. Died as a result of wounds received during a major operation to detain insurgents in Basra City. He died at the Field Hospital at Basra Air Station on July 7th, 2007.

 

Lance Cpl. Kirk Redpath, 22, Badger Squadron, 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, Irish Guards, British Army. Hometown: Romford, Essex. Died of wounds received when an IED exploded near his vehicle north of the Rumaylah oil fields, Iraq, on August 9th, 2007.

 

Sgt. Wayne Rees, 34, Queen’s Royal Lancers, British Army. Hometown: Worksop, Nottinghamshire. Died in an accident involving a tracked reconnaissance vehicle while on operations in Maysan Province, Iraq, on January 7th, 2007.

 

Cpl. John Rigby, 24, 4th Battalion, The Rifles, British Army. Hometown: Rye, East Sussex. Died from injuries sustained from a roadside bomb in Basra, Iraq, on June 22nd, 2007.

Trooper Carl Joseph Smith, 23, 9th/12th Lancers, British Army. Hometown:  Kettering, Northants. Died in a motor vehicle accident on the outskirts of Basra in southern Iraq on February 2nd, 2006.

 

Private Jason Smith, 32, 1st Battalion, The King's Own Scottish Borderers, Hometown: Hawick, England.  The cause of his death was the subject of an investigation but was not the result of enemy action. A coroner said he died after his body temperature soared to 41.1C (106F). Smith died on August 13th, 2003.

 

Private Leon Spicer, 26, C Company, The 1st Battalion Staffordshire Regiment. Hometown: Tamworth, Staffordshire. Died from injuries sustained in hostile action in Maysan province, Iraq, on July 16th, 2005.

 

Sgt. Mark Stansfield, 32, 32nd Close Support Squadron, UK Logistic Battalion, British Army. Hometown: in Oxfordshire. Died in the UK from injuries sustained in a Non-hostile vehicle accident at the Basra Air Station, Iraq on September 21st, 2007.

Private Ryan Lloyd Thomas, 18, 1st Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Wales. Hometown: Resolven, near Neath, Glamorgan, Wales. Died in a road traffic accident whilst on duty in Basra on 6 November 2003. 

 

Pvt. Kevin Thompson, 21, 19 Combat Service Support BN, Royal Logistic Corps, British Army. Hometown: Lancaster, Lancashire. Died of wounds suffered during a road side bomb attack in Southern Iraq. He died in Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham, U.K. on May 6th, 2007.

 

Sapper Robert Thomson, 35, 35 Engineer Regiment, British Army, normally based in Paderborn, Germany. Hometown: Bathgate, West Lothian. Thomson was killed in a tragic accident in Basra on 31 January 2004.    

 

Gunner Lee Darren Thornton, 22, 58 Battery, 12th Regiment Royal Artillery, British Army. Hometown: Blackpool, Lancashire. Died when he was struck by small arms fire during a dismounted patrol in Al Qurna, Iraq, on September 7th, 2006. 

 

Major Matthew Titchener, 32, 150 Provost Company, Royal Military Police. Hometown: Southport, Merseyside, England. Titchener was killed during an attack by gunmen on a British Army vehicle in Basra on 23 August 2003.  

 

Pvt. Pita Tukutukuwaqa, 27, 1st Battalion of The Black Watch, British Army. Hometown: Fiji. Died when his Warrior armoured vehicle was hit by a roadside improvised explosive device near Camp Dogwood, Baghdad, Iraq on November 8th, 2004.

 

Fusilier Kelan John Turrington, 18, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, Hometown: Haslingfield, Cambridgeshire, England. Killed in action while travelling in a Warrior armoured personnel carrier, as British forces made a final push into Basra, Iraq on April 6th, 2003.

 

Trooper Kristen Turton, 28, Queen’s Royal Lancers, British Army. Hometown: Grimsby, Humberside. Died as a result of an improvised explosive device attack in Maysan Province, Iraq, on April 19th, 2007.

 

Lt. Alexander Tweedie, 25, The Blues and Royals, Household Cavalry Regiment, Hometown: Hawick, Scottish Borders, England. Died from injuries sustained during a vehicle rollover in to a canal on April 1st, 2003 in South East Iraq. He died three weeks later, on April 22nd, 2003.

 

Rifleman Edward Vakabua, 23, 7th Platoon, B Company, 4th Battalion, The Rifles, British Army. Hometown: Suva, Fiji. Soldier Aaron Kendrick has been convicted by a court martial of the manslaughter of Rifleman Vakabua who died at the Basra Palace Base in Basra City, Iraq, on July 6th, 2007.

 

Gunner Samuela Vanua, 27, 58 Battery, 12 Regiment, Royal Artillery, British Army. Hometown: Suva, Fiji. Died in action as a result of a road side bomb while on routine patrol in support of a Danish reconstruction team near the town of Ad Dayr, Iraq, on September 4th, 2006.

 

Guardsman Anthony John Wakefield, 24, 1st Battalion, The Coldstream Guards, British Army. Hometown: Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Died as a result of wounds sustained during a routine patrol in Al Amarah, Iraq on May 2nd, 2005.
